Lhaviyani Atoll

Lhaviyani sits north of the central Malé atolls — close enough for a straightforward transfer, far enough to feel like a distinct step away from the busiest resort clusters.

What it's known for

The atoll built its reputation on diving: a smaller, longer-established set of dive sites than the newer resort atolls further south, with the kind of reef structure that's kept dive operators returning for years rather than resorts marketing a single headline site.

What staying here is like

Lhaviyani has fewer resorts than Ari or Kaafu, which tends to mean a quieter house reef and less boat traffic at popular sites — a reasonable option for travellers who want the diving-first focus of Ari Atoll (see our Ari Atoll guide) without quite as much resort density around it.

Getting there

Typically a speedboat or short domestic/seaplane transfer from Velana International Airport, depending on the specific resort — see our getting around the atolls guide for how that decision usually gets made.
