With diving spread across atolls covered separately throughout this site, it's easy to lose track of which one actually matches a specific goal. This page exists purely to cross-reference: pick what you want to see, then jump to the atoll and activity guide that covers it.
Want whale sharks, reliably, year-round?
South Ari Atoll is the clearest answer — see our whale sharks & manta rays guide for how sightings work there.
Want a major manta feeding event?
Baa Atoll's Hanifaru Bay is the standout, seasonal (roughly May–November) and snorkel-only rather than a scuba site.
Want tiger sharks and thresher sharks?
Fuvahmulah (Gnaviyani Atoll) has built an international reputation specifically around these two species — a different trip profile to a typical resort-based dive holiday.
Want a serious current-driven channel dive?
Vaavu Atoll's Fotteyo Kandu is the classic example — see our main diving & snorkelling guide for how channel ("kandu") dives differ from house-reef diving generally.
Want the shortest possible transfer to decent diving?
Kaafu (Malé) Atoll won't out-dive the specialist atolls above, but it's the easiest to reach and still offers solid beginner-to-intermediate sites.
