Keep the transfer simple
Kaafu (Malé) Atoll is the easiest possible first trip logistically — many resorts are a short speedboat ride from the airport, no seaplane connection required, no domestic flight. For a first Maldives trip, removing transfer complexity is worth more than chasing the single best reef in the country.

Pick one resort, not several
First-time visitors are often tempted to island-hop for variety — in practice, a single resort for a full week, chosen deliberately (see our boutique vs. large resorts guide and choosing an atoll guide), tends to work better than splitting a short trip across multiple transfers and check-ins.
Save the far south for a return trip
Addu, Fuvahmulah and the Gaafu atolls (see our southern atolls logistics guide) are genuinely rewarding but logistically more involved — a better fit once you already know what you like about the Maldives, rather than a first-trip destination.
