Whole-island buyouts

Private island buyouts

Beyond booking a single villa, a genuine option at many Maldives resorts — particularly smaller, boutique ones — is a full buyout: renting the entire island exclusively for one group, with no other guests on-property for the duration.

Why groups do this

A buyout is most common for weddings (see our getting married in the Maldives guide), milestone celebrations, or large multi-generational family trips — situations where having the whole island, every restaurant and every staff member dedicated to one group is worth the premium over booking rooms individually.

Which resorts tend to offer it

Smaller, boutique-scale properties (see our boutique vs. large resorts guide) are generally more practical to buy out than a large multi-hundred-villa resort, simply because fewer rooms need filling by your group to make it viable — though larger resorts sometimes offer buyouts for very large events too.

How to actually arrange one

This isn't a standard online booking-flow option — it requires contacting the resort's sales or events team directly, well in advance, to discuss availability, minimum stay requirements and pricing, which is generally structured around the whole property rather than a simple per-room rate.
